His offices were based in Western Pennsylvania prior to his relocation. While he specializes in open and laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery, Dr. Schumacher, has extensive experience in a variety of advanced laparoscopic surgeries and a wide range of other bariatric and general surgical procedures.
A native from the Dayton region, he is a graduate of Ohio Northern University in 1983 and the Ohio State University School of Medicine in 1987. Dr. Schumacher's internship and residency were served at Loyola University Hospital and Rush-St. Luke's-Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. He is board certified and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery (ASBS), the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons (SLES), American Society of General Surgeons, and the Midwest Surgical Society. Dr. Schumacher has authored several articles in medical journals and a chapter in a book on gastric surgery. He has recently presented at the ASBS and SLES annual meetings regarding techniques to reduce the surgical risk of leaks during bariatric surgery.
“I’m thrilled to join the Weight Loss Surgery team, because it’s exciting to think about the potential this program has to change people’s lives. Bariatric surgery has done for so many of my patients what no other treatment could, even after years of effort and frustration. For patients to go from nearly being hopeless to seeing the pounds finally come off—and stay off—is such an amazing transformation. There’s a real need for these surgeries, in our community and all over the country, and I’m eager to help make a difference."
